چکیده

The shallow water sea anemone that was described by Verrill (1928) as Macranthea cookei from specimens collected in Hawaii is redescribed and synonymized with Radianthus pqpillosa, first described by Kwietniewski (1898) as Stichodactis papillosa from Ambon. sand flats on Moku 0 Loe (Coconut Island), Kaneohe Bay, Oahu, were studied alive and in preserved condition. To ascertain that the species in question was indeed the one to which Verrill's description refers, I borrowed the type specimen and one of the cotypes from the B. P. Bishop Museum in Honolulu for examination. Histological sections were made from the cotype and several of the freshly collected

Actiniogeton sesere (Coelenterata, Actiniaria) in HawaiP

A species of sea anemone found in shallow water areas of southern Kaneohe Bay, Oahu, but never before reported from Hawaii, is described. It is identified as Actiniogeton sesere, previously recorded and described from the Torres Straits (Haddon and Shackleton 1893). HAWAII'S COELENTERATE FAUNA is poorly known and is in need of serious study. As I have discussed elsewhere (Dunn 1974), the single...

Development of Temporal Modeling for Forecasting and Prediction of the Incidence of Lychee, Tessaratoma papillosa (Hemiptera: Tessaratomidae), Using Time-Series (ARIMA) Analysis

The most destructive enemy of the lychee, Litchi chinensis Sonn. (Sapindales: Sapindaceae), in India is a stink bug, Tessaratoma papillosa (Drury) (Hemiptera: Tessaratomidae). The population of T. papillosa on lychee trees varied from 1.436 0.501 to 9.856 3.924 insects per branch in this study. An increase in the temperature and a decrease in the relative humidity during summer months (April to...

Stylohates : A Shell - Forming Sea Anemone ( Coelenterata , Anthozoa , Actiniidae ) 1

Anatomy and cnidae distinguish two species of deep-sea actinians that produce coiled, chitinous shells inhabited by hermit crabs of the genus Parapagurus. The actinian type species, Stylobates aeneus, first assigned to the Mollusca, occurs around Hawaii and Guam with P. dofleini. Stylobates cancrisocia, originally described as Isadamsia cancrisocia, occurs off east Africa with P. trispinosus. p...

Hidden among Sea Anemones: The First Comprehensive Phylogenetic Reconstruction of the Order Actiniaria (Cnidaria, Anthozoa, Hexacorallia) Reveals a Novel Group of Hexacorals

Sea anemones (order Actiniaria) are among the most diverse and successful members of the anthozoan subclass Hexacorallia, occupying benthic marine habitats across all depths and latitudes. Actiniaria comprises approximately 1,200 species of solitary and skeleton-less polyps and lacks any anatomical synapomorphy. Although monophyly is anticipated based on higher-level molecular phylogenies of Cn...

The isolation and identification of pathogenic fungi from Tessaratoma papillosa Drury (Hemiptera: Tessaratomidae)

BACKGROUND Litchi stink-bug, Tessaratoma papillosa Drury (Hemiptera: Tessaratomidae), is one of the most widespread and destructive pest species on Litchi chinensis Sonn and Dimocarpus longan Lour in Southern China. Inappropriate use of chemical pesticides has resulted in serious environmental problems and food pollution. Generating an improved Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategy for litc...
